Hajj takes five to six days plus travel time. Umrah is the minor pilgrimage. It can be performed at any time of year. Umrah is highly recommended but not obligatory. Umrah takes two to four hours to complete. Both require entering a state of Ihram. Both include Tawaf around the Kaaba and Sai between Safa and Marwa.
This depends on your school of thought and your age. Under the Hanafi, Maliki, and Hanbali schools, a woman under the age of 45 requires a mahram to travel for Hajj or Umrah. A mahram is her husband or a male relative whom she is permanently forbidden to marry such as her father, brother, son, or uncle. Under the Shafii school, a woman may travel in a trustworthy group of women without a mahram. For women over the age of 45, some scholars relax the mahram requirement.
