Plan your final journey in accordance with Islamic teachings. Funeral requirements, written plan, cost estimation, and provider recommendations.

Plan Your Final Journey in Accordance with Islamic Teachings

Death is the only certainty in life. Every soul shall taste death. Yet most people avoid planning for it. They do not want to think about it. They do not want to burden their families with difficult decisions. But avoiding the topic does not make it go away. It only guarantees that when the time comes, your family will be confused, stressed, and possibly making decisions that go against Islamic teachings.

Our Funeral Planning service helps you prepare for the inevitable in accordance with Islamic law. We guide you through all the decisions. Funeral washing and shrouding according to Sunnah. Janazah prayer. Burial within 24 hours. Grave preparation. Cemetery selection. Funeral costs. Death notifications. Inheritance distribution.

We also help you document your wishes in a written funeral plan. You can share this plan with your family so they know exactly what you want. No guesswork. No family arguments. No last minute scrambling to find a Muslim funeral provider.

Planning for death is not morbid. It is responsible. It is a gift you give to your family. Do not leave them to figure it out on their own during their time of grief.

What's Included

Islamic Funeral Requirements

We explain the Islamic rules for funeral and burial. Ghusl or washing of the body must be performed by same gender family members. Kafan or shrouding uses three white sheets for men and five for women. Salat al Janazah is the funeral prayer performed in congregation. Burial should be as soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours. The grave should be dug facing Qibla. The body should be placed on its right side facing Mecca. No coffin is required but may be allowed if required by local law. We explain all of this in detail so you understand what should happen.

Written Funeral Plan

We help you document your funeral wishes in a written plan. The plan includes your preferred funeral home or service provider, your preferred cemetery, your budget for funeral expenses, your preference for burial or cremation cremation is generally not permitted in Islam, your preference for flowers or donations, and any other specific instructions. You share this plan with your family and your executor. When you pass away, they follow the plan. No confusion. No arguments.

Pre need Funeral Arrangements

You can pre pay for your funeral. This locks in current prices and relieves your family of the financial burden. We help you evaluate pre need funeral plans offered by Muslim funeral homes in Hong Kong. We review the contracts for any hidden fees or interest clauses. We ensure the plan is Shariah compliant. We also advise on whether pre paying is better than setting aside money in a separate account. Each approach has pros and cons. We help you choose.

Wasiyyah for Funeral Instructions

Your Islamic will or wasiyyah can include your funeral instructions. This makes your wishes legally binding. Your executor is obligated to follow them. We help you add funeral instructions to your will. This is more powerful than a separate funeral plan because it is a legal document. Your family cannot ignore it. We also advise on how to word the instructions to avoid ambiguity. For example do you want a specific imam to lead the Janazah prayer? Name them. Do you want to be buried in a specific cemetery? Name it.

Funeral Cost Estimation

Funerals are expensive. A basic Muslim funeral in Hong Kong might cost HKD 10,000 to HKD 20,000. A more elaborate funeral with transportation, catering for mourners, and cemetery fees could cost HKD 30,000 to HKD 50,000 or more. We help you estimate the cost based on your preferences. We break down each component. Washing and shrouding, transportation, cemetery plot, grave digging, headstone, catering, and other services. You then know how much to set aside.

Provider Recommendations

We maintain a list of Muslim funeral providers in Hong Kong. These include funeral homes that offer Islamic services, cemeteries that have Muslim sections, and imams who lead Janazah prayers. We have vetted these providers for reliability and Shariah compliance. We provide you with contact information and estimated prices. You can contact them directly. We do not take commissions. We recommend based on quality not on kickbacks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Islamic ruling on cremation?

Cremation is prohibited in Islam. The body must be buried in the ground. Cremation is considered a desecration of the body. Even if the person requested cremation in their will, their wishes should not be followed. The Islamic obligation to bury the body supersedes any personal preference. In Hong Kong, cremation is common due to limited burial space. However Muslim cemeteries exist with dedicated burial plots. We can help you find a Muslim cemetery. If no Muslim cemetery is available, burial in a general cemetery is acceptable as long as the grave is marked and you are buried facing Qibla. Cremation is never acceptable. Do not choose it. Do not let your family choose it.

How soon should burial happen?

Burial should happen as soon as possible after death. Ideally within 24 hours. This is based on the practice of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. He was buried the same day he died. Delays are only permitted for legitimate reasons. For example if the death occurs at night and a grave cannot be dug until morning. Or if family members need time to travel from far away. But the delay should be minimal. In Hong Kong, legal requirements may cause delays. You need a death certificate from a doctor. You need a burial permit from the government. These can take time. We advise you to pre arrange with a funeral provider who can expedite the process. Do not let bureaucracy delay what should happen quickly.

Can a woman attend the funeral?

Yes women can attend funerals. There is no prohibition in Islam. However the practices vary by culture. In some cultures, women do not attend funerals or visit graves. This is cultural not religious. The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him allowed women to visit graves. He saw a woman crying at a grave and did not tell her to leave. He allowed women to attend funerals. The only restriction is that women should not wail loudly or beat themselves in grief. This is prohibited for both men and women. Otherwise, women are welcome to attend the funeral prayer and the burial. If your family has cultural objections, you may need to educate them gently.

What about organ donation after death?

Organ donation is a debated topic among scholars. Some scholars say organ donation is permissible because saving a life is a great virtue. The Quran says whoever saves a life is as if they have saved all of humanity. Other scholars say organ donation is prohibited because the body must be buried intact. They argue that removing organs is a form of mutilation which is forbidden. The majority opinion leans toward permissibility if the donation is for a specific living person and if the donor consented before death. Donation to a medical school or research is more controversial. We advise you to discuss with your local scholar. If you choose to donate, document your decision in your will so your family knows. If you choose not to donate, also document that so your family is not pressured.

How much should I budget for a Muslim funeral in Hong Kong?

A basic Muslim funeral in Hong Kong costs approximately HKD 10,000 to HKD 15,000. This includes washing and shrouding, transportation of the body, Janazah prayer arrangements, cemetery fees, and grave digging. A more elaborate funeral including catering for mourners, a headstone, and transportation for family members can cost HKD 25,000 to HKD 40,000. International transportation of the body to another country for burial costs significantly more. Shipping a body to Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, or Indonesia can cost HKD 15,000 to HKD 30,000 in addition to local funeral costs. We recommend budgeting HKD 20,000 for a local funeral and HKD 50,000 for international repatriation. It is better to overestimate than to leave your family short.
